Therefore, if you have an interview coming up soon for any role or company, keep reading because we promise to help you be successful.

So, to help you pass your job interview, we will cover the following  two things during this tutorial:

  1. We will tell you the TOP 7 qualities all employers look for during job interviews.
  2. We will then give you a sentence to use when responding to the interview questions that demonstrate those 7 qualities.

TO BEGIN WITH, WHAT ARE THE TOP 7 QUALITIES ALL EMPLOYERS LOOK FOR IN JOB INTERVIEWS?

QUALITY NUMBER 1 IS SELF-DISCIPLINE

Being self-disciplined means you organize your work, you complete everything on time, you don’t need to be reminded of what to do, and you take ownership of your professional development. So, when you answer the interview question, how would you describe yourself, say this:

“I would describe myself as self-disciplined and dependable. I take pride in my work,  I get everything completed on time and to the expected standard, I always follow employers code of conduct and demonstrate their values, and I never have to be reminded of what I must to do in my role.”

QUALITY NUMBER 2 IS ADAPTABILITY TO CHANGE

It does not matter which sector or industry you work in, competition and customer expectations are high. That is why all employers want to take on people who can adapt to change and are willing to embrace it with a positive attitude. If you are the type of person who doesn’t believe it’s important to change and improve, you will struggle to get hired.

So, when the hiring manager says to you during your interview, why should we hire you, say this:

“You should hire me because I adapt well to change and I embrace it with a positive mindset. I believe change is important in an organization if it is to maintain its position as a market leader. You can rely on me to help you implement any changes needed, and encourage other people in my team to do the same.”

QUALITY NUMBER 3 IS PROBLEM SOLVING

There is nothing worse than an employee who won’t take ownership of challenges. Employees who ignore problems, and leave them for others to deal with, are not team players and they are not responsible people.

So, when the interviewer says to you, what’s are your greatest strengths? Say this:

“One of my greatest strengths is my problem solving capabilities. For example, in my last role, we encountered a problem with the company’s website. Before informing my manager, I took it upon myself to investigate the issue. After a few minutes of analysis, I realized it was down to a surge in traffic due to an online sale that had caused the website’s server to overload. I then informed my manager what I had found, and we took steps to upgrade the server.”

QUALITY NUMBER 4 IS SELF-MANAGEMENT

Employees who need constant direction, monitoring, and supervising are a drain on an employer’s time. Whilst you will need some initial direction and coaching when you start work, it is important to quickly self-manage your daily routine, and your ongoing professional development. When the hiring manager says to you, why do you want this job, say this:

“I want this job because it is a role I am very passionate about and one I am confident I can get up to speed quickly in. One of my strengths is self-management. If I get the job, I will get a brief from you on what is expected of me in the role, and I will then set to work, learn all company policies and procedures quickly, and take responsibility moving forward for my ongoing professional development so I am always a high performer in my team.”

QUALITY NUMBER 5 IS ONE THAT EMPLOYERS NOW DEMAND FROM THEIR EMPLOYEES, AND THAT IS RESPECT & TEAM FIT

All employers look for candidates who can fit into their team quickly and who will be considerate and respectful of others. Nobody wants a bully in the workplace, and nobody wants someone who isn’t considerate of other people, especially in terms of how they act and communicate.

So, at the end of your interview, when the hiring manager asks you if you have any questions for them, ask the following two questions:

Q1. Can you tell me more about the team I would be a part of in this role.

Q2. What are the company’s values that I would be expected to demonstrate in this position?

QUALITY NUMBER 6 IS FLEXIBILITY

Some employees will only carry out work that is within their job description. So, if the company needed their help, say to cover the work of a co-worker who was off sick for example, they wouldn’t do it! That’s not being flexible.

Some employees will turn up to work exactly at the time they are due to start, and they will insist on leaving as soon as it comes to 5pm or the end of the working day. Again, that’s not being flexible.

But, if you can demonstrate flexibility and a willingness to help out when needed, you will be far more attractive to the hiring manager! So, when they ask you the interview question, what makes you stand out from other candidates, say this:

“One of the things that makes me standout is my flexibility. I will carry out tasks outside of my job description to help you when needed, and I will stay behind late if urgent work needs to be carried out to assist in the completion of time sensitive tasks or projects.”

QUALITY NUMBER 7 IS A POSITIVE ATTITUDE
