Rejected For A Job? (Here’s What You Must Do Next!)

In this guide, we will tell you what to do if you get rejected for a job. What you do if you fail your interview and you get rejected for a job is really important to your future success.

Also, if you are the type of person who keeps getting rejected time and time again, we will give you some really useful tips for improving your chances of SUCCESS!

TIP #1 – if you get rejected for a job is to BE POSITIVE!

As hard as this may be, it is essential you are positive, you are upbeat and you respond to the employer or the hiring manager in a certain way, which we will cover further on in this guide.

TIP #2 – is to remember that getting rejected is NOT A REFLECTION OF YOUR ABILITIES

It might be that the employer already had someone else lined up for the job.

It might be that you just had an off-day, or you were not the type of person they were looking for at that particular time.

So, do not get down or dejected. Instead, follow these 2 steps:

STEP #1 – Say THANK YOU to the hiring manager!

This is a very important thing to do. If you thank the interviewer or the hiring manager for giving you the opportunity, it shows you are very professional, and it also shows them that they have potentially missed out on somebody special for the role.

Here’s our recommended email to send to the Hiring Manager if you get rejected:

Dear sir/madam,

Thank you for informing me of the outcome of the interview. I thoroughly enjoyed the process, and it was good to find out more about your company.

Whilst I am genuinely disappointed I was not successful, I do understand and respect your decision.

If you have the time, I would very much appreciate it if you could provide me with some feedback to help me improve for future interviews.

Once again, thank you for the opportunity and if it does not work out with the person you have hired, please reconsider me for the position.

Kind regards,

[INSERT NAME]

[INSERT CONTACT NUMBER]

This email puts you across as highly professional, respectful, and it shows that you want to improve.

Now, although the hiring manager may not respond with any feedback, it does not matter.

More often than you probably realize, things don’t always work out with the person a company hires, and instead of going back through a full interview process, they will contact other candidates they have interviewed to see if they are still available.

STEP #2 – write down a list of things you think you could have done better for your next interview.

Remember this – failure is an OPPORTUNITY for you to LEARN & IMPROVE!

The best mindset to adopt when things don’t go your way, is to ask yourself what you can learn from the experience and how you can improve for next time. Life is about continuous improvement, and if you are open to learning, you can achieve whatever you want to!

WHY DO PEOPLE FAIL INTERVIEWS? WHY DO THEY NOT GET SELECTED FOR A JOB?

There are usually 3 reasons why people don’t get hired, and the 3 reasons will help you to improve for any future interviews. These WILL increase your chances of success:

REASON #1 WHY PEOPLE DON’T GET HIRED – THEY ARE NEGATIVE DURING THE INTERVIEW.

You might say just one thing during your interview that puts the hiring manager off from hiring you.

  • Do not be negative about former employers, managers, or co-workers under any circumstances!
  • Do not say you left your job because you didn’t agree with the direction the company was heading, or there was a toxic work environment!
  • Do not say you don’t have the experience to do the job! Remember, positivity attracts positivity.

So, always be positive and be SMART in what you say and how you say it!

REASON #2 WHY PEOPLE DON’T GET HIRED – THEY DON’T DO ENOUGH RESEARCH ABOUT THE JOB AND THE COMPANY THEY ARE APPLYING FOR!

If you know very little about the company you are being interviewed to work for, you are unlikely to get hired!

If you applied for a job with my company, nearly all employers will ask you the interview question – “what do you know about our company?”

If you can’t answer the question, it tell the employer that you are only interested in getting a job, and you don’t really care who that job is with!

Therefore, make sure you:

  • Research their company website ABOUT US.
  • Look into their products and services.
  • Follow them on social media and look at their latest news stories or posts!

REASON #3 WHY PEOPLE DON’T GET HIRED – IS THEY DON’T ASK THE RIGHT QUESTIONS AT THE END OF THEIR JOB INTERVIEW!

As you know, at the end of your interview the hiring manager will give you the chance to ask some questions of your own.

More often than not, people ask questions that focus on pay, time off, holidays or what the company can offer them! These are not great questions to ask! Instead, ask questions that show you want their company to be successful in the future:

Q1. What would you need me to focus on in the role within the first 30 days of starting if I am successful?

Q2. Who is your greatest competitor and what could I do in the role to help you better them?

Q3. What advice would you give to the successful candidate who wants to succeed in the role?
